A Guide to PPC Marketing For Beginners
December 26, 2021Do you remember your first online experience? If you were around back when the computer age started to kick in, things were a little different then. Here are a few online trends that you don’t see so much of anymore.
Nope, we’re not gonna click here. We’ll be much more likely to click on a keyword or phrase that gives us some idea of what we will be looking at.
SEO Keywords
While keyword densities and anchor text are still key on-site factors in search engine ranking algorithms, you don’t see them overused as much as you used to. Search engines like Google have put algorithms in place that flag material containing more than 3% keyword usage. And, everyone wants to keep Google happy, right?
Crazy Fonts
They were fun way back when, but not so much anymore. It seemed that the more creative the fonts got, the crazier and harder to read they seemed to get, sometimes confusing the meaning of the text altogether. Now, we tend to see clearer, easily readable fonts.
Ostentatious Websites
Less in definitely more when it comes to website design. Back in the day, it seemed like websites were vying for who could have the most links. Unfortunately, all of that activity sometimes ended up confusing visitors and leading them to other sites. Now, we see websites that are easier to navigate and enjoy.
Annoying Music
Do you remember ever clicking on a website and all of the sudden there is annoying music playing in the background? How often did you find yourself scrambling to turn it off? How many times did you just mute your computer to stop the music? A lot of people just left the site altogether. That’s why you don’t hear so much of that annoying music anymore.
Long Text
Early online reading seemed to mimic the style of newspapers and magazines. Long paragraphs and lengthy sales letters were common. Now, it’s the opposite. Website designers are focusing more on digital media rather than print. You also see shorter paragraphs that grab the reader’s attention.
Buying Links
Link building is still super important, but the process of acquiring them has changed a bit. Trading links is a much more acceptable practice today, and of course Google has put algorithms in place that keep track of credible links. It’s all about keeping the search engines happy so that your website gets noticed.
Yellow Pages
The Yellow Pages is still used today, but not nearly like it used to be. Not only did it have phone numbers, it was also used for businesses to place advertisements for services. Those advertisements transferred over to the internet once the Yellow Pages was available online. But, now we tend to bypass the whole “Yellow Pages” experience and go straight to what we are looking for.
Stock Photos
Websites are now more about looking realistic and credible to their visitors. The old, poor-quality, staged stock photos have been replaced with high resolution digital imagery to grab the readers attention.
It wasn’t really that long ago that there wasn’t any type of online experience at all. And, just look at how much things have changed. It almost makes you wonder which trends will go stale next.
